The Anatomy of a Grassroots System: Quantifying the Village Super League

I. The Macroeconomic Engine

Evaluating the longitudinal data from 2021 to 2025 reveals how the introduction of the Village Super League (Cun Chao) fundamentally reorganized Rongjiang County’s macroeconomic profile. Before the tournament's viral launch, the local economy relied on standard regional tourism, with 2021 yielding 4.43 million visits and 4.10 billion CNY in tourism revenue. The structural turning point occurred in 2023. The launch of Cun Chao initiated an immediate demand shock, driving tourist influx to 7.66 million and expanding tourism revenue to 8.40 billion CNY. Crucially, unlike typical internet-driven tourism that spikes and immediately crashes, Cun Chao sustained and expanded its continued momentum over three years, growing from 8.40B CNY in 2023 to 12.05B CNY in 2025. It is incredibly rare for a single cultural ecosystem to eclipse a region's entire economic output. By 2025, the tourism revenue (12.05B CNY) completely surpassed the county's base Gross Domestic Product (10.91B CNY GDP), turning a grassroots sports league into the primary driver of the macroeconomy.

II. Explaining the Numbers

The Organizational Mechanics & Architecture

Decentralized Model

Local villagers and committees founded Cun Chao, and it remains in control. It uses a grassroots model that bypasses professional leagues such as the CSL (Chinese Super League).

Decision-making by the Rongjiang Football Association focuses on developing Cun Chao by listening to villagers, players, and remaining completely transparent without the interference of higher authorities.

This assures that Cun Chao remains authentic to its identity, promoting "快乐足球" (Happy Football) above all else.
